1859′s Take on Green Living in OR

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

On top of sharing some great crab recipes and local getaways, 1859‘s Winter Adventure Issue highlights homes focused on “sustainable design and low-impact living” in Oregon.

As if that wasn’t enough to excite Cyan/PDX, the issue introduces readers to artist and physicist, Julian Voss-Andreae and his incredible (and almost disappearing) Quantum Man. Grab the next issue you see!

It’s refreshing to finally see companies starting to understand that we don’t need bigger badder products. Today we need things to be simple and small that can fit into our lives and our pocket books!! Homes, appliances, computers, cell phones, and cars…on man, no one really needs that extended monster truck with the 7 foot tires do they? Along with some other forward thinking companies Ford Motor Company has figured out what we are looking for!

Tomorrow at the Detriot Auto Show welcome the new Ford Focus!

Thinking about downsizing your life? See what this couple is doing!

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

If you think downsizing to a luxury Cyan apartment might be too challenging…see what this NYC couple has done to live their lives to the fullest!

175-square-foot studio just enough for couple, 2 cats

Their cozy, $150,000 apartment leaves them plenty of room — and money — for comforts outside the home.

There’s a lotta love in New York’s tiniest apartment. Not that Zaarath and Christopher Prokop have much of a choice, nestled in their 175-square-foot “microstudio” with their two cats.

But The New York Postwrites that for the Prokops, who bought the apartment three months ago for $150,000, it was a choice.

Small, simple designed condos are growing more popular in many metropolitan areas

Their first apartment, in New Jersey, was 1,600 square feet, and with downsizing already on the brain they moved into a 900-square-foot apartment in Jersey City. When Manhattan became their next destination, they decided they could go even smaller.

Green Design in Color!!!! What the People are Saying!

Monday, November 16th, 2009

This past Thursday was our first “Personal Design in Green Spaces” event and…..wait for it….it was a success!!!!  Picture 008

Folks said comments like, “ ….. had great use of space and use of cement pillars for a chalkboard and that unique apartment had the best use of found and recycled/reused items for design.” The conversations that I overheard were that the resident was very creative with their use of art and space and that large loft looked livable-not like a hotel, that it was homey.

The night started out with an Oregon pinot, some funky music and a smile on every one’s face. It ended with laughter, looks of awe,  four winners and ideas for the next Personal Design in Green Spaces.   Picture 013

Residents with the best use of space, most unique, judges choice and the highlighted audience award were given Aquariva Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar gift certificates. Aquariva is located on the South Waterfront, next to the Avalon Hotel.

If you didn’t get a chance to stop by, a book highlighting the apartments showcased is being created and will be in the lobby for viewing!

People have a lot to say abut Cyan/PDX! Ok, so we’re not trying to brag or anything…

untitled

but here’s what they say:

“Another exciting living situation here in portland is the newly completed cyan apartment building downtown, which i knew nothing about until i attended an event under a giant tent on their faux-grass outdoor communal area a few weeks ago. i took a tour of the building afterwards, and there’s so many perks to living there it was mind blowing! there are many newer eco/green apartment buildings here in portland, but i haven’t run across any others that have all these features: pet friendly, an on-site concierge, gym facilities, movie nights and lecture series in the community areas, a community garden area, walking distance to the farmer’s market, restaurants, and shops. modeled on the best of efficient european and asian urban living, the apartments themselves are stunning and the entire building expects to be leed gold certified soon. wow. how’s that for apartment living?!”
