Randy White, founder of Bright Neighbor, hosted the event that drew in 100+ of its members from all over Portland. There was a series of speeches and presentations throughout the night by Linda K. Johnson (Guerilla-gardening educator), Bo Rinaldi (owner of Blossoming Lotus, the premiere vegan cafe of Portland), and Randy White of course! The whole idea behind the Bright Neighbor Revolution is to bring communities together and see them thrive by reaching out and using internet-based tools. Community members may list items or skills that fellow neighbors may borrow or need and vice versa. You can call it a barter system, trade, or simply going back to the basics. That’s just the beginning of Bright Neighbor! They help coordinate community gardening and local governments while always enriching people’s lives with the message of sustainability. Also, residents of CYAN/pdx will receive a membership to Bright Neighbor and an amazing opportunity to be connected with a progressive, sustainable community. Stay tuned for pictures from the event!

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009Last week Gerding Edlen Development hosted the famous Beer and Blog at their CyanPDX leasing center. The purpose of the event was to meet all those faceless bloggers that we chat with online. It was a hit with over 100 people showing up! How did we get that count? We started out with 80 customized pins and 100 cups, but by the end of the night they were all gone!
With a keg positioned in each model apartment, people were constantly moving between the two spaces and getting the real-life experience of what it would be like to live in CyanPDX. It turns out the progressive bloggers also like progressive living because CyanPDX had 6 reservations that very weekend following the event! Check out a couple of the great Tweets from our event:
From PDXsays: Ditto! RT: @NycoHerzog: @CyanPDX thanks for hosting a super fun @BeerandBlog! Great convos, great space.
From @anomalyinc: Thanks @cyanpdx and @beerandblog — good times!
From @kuramot: @beerandblog rules, thx @cyanpdx for pizza and beer
From @RobotAdam: “The apartment search is settled. We’re moving in to @cyanpdx in May.”
From @tarajaime: “I’m so excited to have a kitchen table in the kitchen! RT @robotadam: The apartment search is settled. We’re moving in to @cyanpdx in May.”
CyanPDX would like to send out a warm thank you to Beer and Blog for their fabulous event!
Building a Green Community
Tuesday, March 17th, 2009
A warm thank you to Neighborhood Notes for their fabulous article on CyanPDX: “Cyan, a High-rise Apartment in Downtown Portland: A Green Building is Building Community”
Here’s a snippet:
To build community, people must be able to see and get to know each other. This happens naturally when there’s a beautiful place to be. Healthy relationships are the essence of a green lifestyle. When our interpersonal and international relationships are polluted with negativity and conflict, naturally our environment reflects this. The health of humanity directly relates to environmental health.
